Walls, Castle and Tickets
The castle is now the Pousada do Castelo, a hotel, so you cannot tour it like a museum. Walking the walls is free and needs no ticket; the circuit is about 1.5 km, up to about 13 m high, with no handrails on most of it, and it is not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs. Walk it in daylight and skip it in rain, wind or darkness, or with young children. Museums and events have their own admission.
Should You Add Nazaré or Alcobaça?
By car, add only one place. Nazaré (about 45 minutes away) creates a coast contrast, but sea conditions vary. Alcobaça (35–40 minutes) gives a more coherent heritage pairing. Public-transport combinations are harder and only worth it when the timetables leave a useful visit at both stops.
